Life is like candy

 In the movie 'Forrest Gump,' there's a famous line, 'Life is like a box of chocolates.' Forrest's mother says this because you never know what kind of chocolate you're going to get until you open the box. I'm going to draw a nostalgic candy box filled with various colorful candies and slightly change the meaning of that line.

영화 "포레스트 검프"의 대사에 이런 말이 있죠. "인생은 초콜릿과 같다." 상자를 열기 전까지 어떤 초콜릿을 선택했는지 아무도 모르기 때문이라고 주인공의 엄마가 말한 것이었죠. 각양각색의 사탕들이 가득 담긴 추억의 사탕 상자를 그림으로 남기며 그 대사와 의미를 조금 바꾸어 봅니다.

There was a time when products labeled "Made in USA" held a certain romantic allure. The American candy shown in the picture above was the ultimate treat for my younger self. Recently, I stumbled upon it again in the foreign sweets section of a department store and bought some.

The unique feature of this candy is that it contains various colorful hard candies. Each color has a different flavor. People had their favorite colors, and more often than not, they preferred orange, yellow, or green. I was no exception. So, I remember that the red candies were always left at the bottom of the container. Even now, as an adult, I tend to avoid the red ones.

But now I understand. Eventually, you end up eating the red ones too.

If Forrest Gump's mother had received this candy instead of chocolates, she might have said, "Eventually, you have to do the things you don't want to do. The good-tasting candies disappear quickly, and only the red ones are left..."

옛날, 미제라고 불리는 상품들에 대해 로망을 가졌던 시절이 있었습니다. 위의 그림에서 보이는 미제 사탕은 어린 저에게 최고의 음식이었습니다. 얼마 전 백화점의 외국 과자류 코너에 갔다가 그 사탕을 발견하고 사 왔습니다. 

이 사탕의 특징은 각양각색의 알사탕이 들어있다는 것입니다. 각 색마다 다른 맛이죠. 사람마다 선호하는 색깔의 사탕이 있었는데, 높은 확률로 오렌지색, 노란색, 초록색 사탕을 좋아했습니다. 저도 마찬가지였죠. 그래서 항상 빨간색 사탕만 통 안에 남았던 게 기억납니다. 나이를 먹은 지금도 빨간색 사탕은 멀리하게 되네요. 

그러나 지금은 압니다. 결국 빨간색 사탕도 먹게 된다는 것을요. 

"포레스트 검프"의 엄마가 초콜릿이 아닌 이 사탕을 받아보았다면 이렇게 말했을 것 같습니다. "결국 하기 싫은 일도 해야 한단다. 맛있는 색깔의 사탕은 곧 없어지고 빨간색 사탕만 남게 되거든..."
